2. What’s your reason for joining TSM Korea instead of any other study missions?

South Korea is globally renowned for its cutting edge technology innovations. It is currently among the global leaders in the high-technology industry with leading technology suppliers such as Samsung and LG. South Korea’s entrepreneurship scene was given a boost when President Park Geun-hye was elected. She encouraged the growth and cultivation of startups within the country by channeling money to build their own “Silicon Valley”. Since then, the number startups in South Korea have increased sharply, almost doubling from 15,401 in 2008 to 28,193 in 2012 according to Korea Venture Business Association.

With so many startups around, it is important for each company to differentiate themselves in order to survive. Being part of TSM South Korea will allow me to interact with these entrepreneurs to understand the process of growing and sustaining the business.

3. Tell us something interesting about the company you are in charge of for TSM

Companies that focus on music sharing services often provide a platform where people can connect with one another. Although other companies such as Spotify or Pandora do offer such services, end users often end up engaging with someone else from a different city or even a different country. The differentiating factor between Ideabove and its competitors is enabling users to engage with others from the same region. Hence making it easier for them to meet offline (such as meeting up for coffee or drinks). This will also encourage them to have in depth music discussion and even attend music festivals together.

4. Why did you choose your company out of so many start-ups in Japan/Korea?

Everyone has music on his/her smart phones. However there is a limit to the number of songs one can store on his/her phone. The idea behind Bonosound is pretty interesting. What it does is to bring all of these songs and information from the smart phone to the music cloud. It enables crowdsourcing, allowing diversified contents to be covered. Also it will be great to understand how such technology companies monetize their business ideas as most of their services offered are free to consumers.

5. What is the biggest thing that you wish to achieve out of this TSM?

To make new friends and be inspired by these entrepreneurs.
